CELLULAR MECHANISMS OF DINOFLAGELLATE CYST DEVELOPMENT AND ECDYSIS - MANY QUESTIONS TO ANSWER
стр.47-56
Dinoflagellates are characterized by the ability to form different types of cysts (resting and temporary) ensuring their viability under unfavorable environmental conditions. Although cyst production was described in many species and is considered as one of the key adaptations of these organisms, relatively little information on the cellular mechanisms of dinoflagellate cyst development and the related process of ecdysis is available. This article reviews the data obtained so far and emphasizes the questions that need to be answered in future in order to improve our knowledge about dinoflagellate physiology and ecological success.

ULTRASTRUCTURAL ASPECTS OF ECDYSIS IN THE NAKED DINOFLAGELLATE AMPHIDINIUM CARTERAE
стр.57-63
Berdieva M., Safonov P., Matantseva O.
The stressor-induced ecdysis takes a special place in dinoflagellate biology. During ecdysis, a cell loses the plasmalemma, outer amphiesmal vesicle membrane and, in armored species, thecal plates, becomes immotile, and then amphiesma regeneration occurs. Here we report the results of our study of cell covering rearrangement during ecdysis in the naked dinoflagellate species Amphidinium carterae Hulburt 1957. Ecdysis was induced by mechanical treatment (centrifugation). The changes in cell organization at the ultrastructural level were examined using transmission electron microscopy methods. Shedding of the plasma membrane and the outer amphiesmal vesicle membranes, fusion of the inner amphiesmal vesicle membranes were observed. The amorphous cytoplasm zone, which underlies inner amphiesmal vesicle membranes in motile cells, retains under the new plasma membrane in ecdysed cells. We showed accumulation of small vesicles and flattened tubules that apparently begin fusion to form juvenile amphiesmal vesicles in this zone. The absence of pellicle in Amphidinium dinoflagellates was suggested.

THE FIRST RECORD OF PARACINETA IRREGULARIS (CILIOPHORA, SUCTOREA) AS EPIBIONT ON RHOMBOGNATHUS, HALACARID MITE (ACARI, HALACARIDAE) FROM THE SEA OF MARMARA, TURKEY
стр.67-70
Durucan F., Artüz M.L., Dovgal I.V.
This study presents the data on the new finding of suctorian ciliate Paracineta irregularis on halacarid mite Rhombognathus sp. from the Sea of Marmara, Turkey. Diagnostic characters of P. irregularis such as contractility of tentacles and position of macronucleus are emended based on the material collected from the new locality. The mode of the species reproduction by semi-circumvaginative exogemmic budding is described for the first time.

RUMINAL CILIATE DIVERSITY OF DOMESTIC CATTLE IN ANTALYA, TURKEY, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON MORPHOLOGY OF ENTODINIUM ROSTRATUM (ENTODINIOMORPHIDA, OPHRYOSCOLECIDAE)
стр.71-78
Gürelli G., Yürücüoğlu N.
The ruminal ciliate diversity of domestic cattle living in Antalya, Turkey was investigated and 29 species and 9 morphotypes belonging to 10 genera were detected. The average density (±SD) of ciliates in the ruminal contents of 15 individuals of domestic cattle (Bos taurus taurus) was 100.0 (±74.4)×104 cells ml-1. For individual cattle, the total number of species per animal ranged from 7.0 to 17.0 with an average of 11.4±3.2 (SD). Of the ciliate species found, Isotricha prostoma and Entodinium simulans were the most abundant occurring in all cattle, each with a prevalence of 100%, whereas Diplodinium rangiferi, E. rectangulatum, Ostracodinium clipeolum, O. gracile and O. trivesiculatum were detected in only one animal (6.7% prevalence). Morphology of Entodinium rostratum (Entodiniomorphida, Ophryoscolecidae) was researched, and the infraciliary band pattern of this ciliate was described for the first time. The buccal infraciliary band pattern of E. rostratum is composed of two polybrachykineties, paralabial kineties, and vestibular fibrils. The adoral polybrachykinety is characteristic of other Entodinium species but vestibular polybrachykinety differs from other Entodinium species. Vestibular polybrachykinety of E. rostratum is straight and contains transverse, parallel, and short vestibular fibrils. Because of these features, the E. rostratum-type infraciliary band pattern is considered as more primitive than the Entodinium-type and could be ancestral in the family Ophryoscolecidae.
