ALTITUDINAL PATTERNS OF DIVERSITY OF MYXOMYCETES (MYXOGASTRIA) ACROSS TROPICAL FORESTS OF SOUTHERN VIETNAM
стр.73-80
Novozhilov Yu.K., Shchepin O.N., Alexandrova A.V., Popov E.S., Dagamac N.H.A.
The tropical forests of Vietnam are distinguished by a high species diversity of myxomycetes. The paper presents the results of analysis of the myxomycete diversity on the basis of field collecting of the fruit bodies, as well as moist chamber cultures prepared with samples taken from the bark surface of living trees and vines, ground and aerial litter and coarse woody debris. Detailed comparative analysis using methods of multidimensional statistics allowed us to reveal some trends in their distribution on high-altitude gradient, and also in various biotopes and substrates. Species richness and abundance are lower in middle-mountainous forests in comparison with lowland forests. In the mountain tropical forests these indicators decrease with increasing altitude and have minimal values in cloud forests. The abundance and species richness of myxomycetes decrease with an increase in the moisture content of substrates. The species composition of the substrate assemblages of mountain forests differs from that in the lowland forests. Some species which are common in temperate and boreal zone are registered also in the mountainous tropical forests of Vietnam.

HETEROTROPHIC FLAGELLATES IN THE PRIMARY LAKES AND HOLLOW-POOLS OF MIRES IN THE EUROPEAN NORTH OF RUSSIA
стр.81-96
Prokina K.I., Philippov D.A.
Species diversity and morphology of heterotrophic flagellates from 5 primary mire lakes and 4 secondary hollow-pools in mires were studied. Samples were taken from three microbiotopes: plankton, benthos, and periphyton. Micrographs and morphological descriptions for all observed species were given. A total of 40 species and forms were found. The most common species were Bodo saltans, Goniomonas truncata, Neobodo designis, Rhynchomonas nasuta, and Ancyromonas sigmoides. The higher species richness, as well as the greater number of unique species was registered in primary mire lakes. Bodo saltans, Neobodo designis, and Spumella sp. were found in all types of the studied microbiotopes. Greater species diversity was discovered in benthos.

SULFUR DEPRIVATION-INDUCED EXPRESSION OF THB1, A CHLAMYDOMONAS REINHARDTII TRUNCATED HEMOGLOBIN, IS MEDIATED BY NITRATE REDUCTASE-DEPENDENT NO PRODUCTION
стр.97-108
Zalutskaya Zh., Filina V., Ermilova E.
During sulfur (S) deprivation, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii mediates a suite of specific responses to efficiently acquire S from various sources and remodel primary metabolism. Although the truncated hemoglobin 1 (THB1)-dependent regulation of a subset of S limitation-responsive genes has been elucidated, the mechanism through which THB1 transcription is triggered in S-deprived cells is not known. Here, we show that signaling proteins and regulators associated with S deprivation specific responses did not control THB1 expression. Following S depletion, rapid increase in nitrite concentrations is essential for THB1 upregulation. These changes are consistent with NO accumulation. Increased nitrite, NO and THB1 mRNA levels were not observed in mutant cells without diaphorase-NR activity. Our findings suggest that nitrate reductase - nitric oxide-forming nitrite reductase system plays a positive role in THB1 transcription via generation of NO from nitrite in S-starved cells. NR-dependent NO production may be regarded as an early trigger, which contributes to Chlamydomonas adaptability to nutrient stresses.
