Выявлено участие света в модификации активности пероксидазной ферментной системы внутриклеточного компартмента побегов и корней проростков пшеницы и генерации пероксида водорода. Показано, что в надземных частях проростков свет активирует оксидазную функцию пероксидазы, вызывает накопление пероксида водорода (окислительный взрыв); в корнях - индуцирует равнозначные изменения обеих функций фермента, не вызывая изменения уровня АФК.
CHANGES IN SERUM ENZYMES LEVELS ASSOCIATED WITH LIVER FUNCTIONS IN STRESSED MARWARI GOAT

Serum enzyme levels were determined in goats of Marwari breed belonging to farmers' stock of arid tract of Rajasthan state, India. The animals were grouped into healthy and stressed comprising of gastrointestinal parasiticised, pneumonia affected, and drought affected. The serum enzymes determined were sorbitol dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glutamate dehydrogenase, ornithine carbamoyl transferase, gamma-glutamayl transferase, 5'nucleotidase, glucose-6-phosphatase, arginase, and aldolase. In stressed group the mean values of all the enzymes increased significantly (p≤0.05) as compared to respective healthy mean value. All the enzymes showed highest values in the gastrointestinal parasiticised animals and least values in the animals having pneumonia. In gastrointestinal parasiticised animals maximum change was observed in G-6-Pase activity and minimum change was observed in malate dehydrogenase mean value. It was concluded that Increased activity of all the serum enzymes was due to modulation of liver functions directly or indirectly.
SERUM AND URINARY ELECTROLYTES LEVEL IN THE SUBJECTS OF TWO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The serum electrolytes, Sodium and Potassium are the important macronutrient to the human and it is supplied to the body via the solid and liquid food materials. These electrolytes have different roles in the body and these functions are crucial for life. Its rate of consumption and excretion may vary to the different geographical region, and this may cause the variable medical fitness. We investigated the serum & urinary profile of Na+ & K+, and compared it with their dietary intake of these macronutrients in 400 healthy subjects from two different regions, plain and hill. The subjects from the plain region consume more Na+ & K+ rather than hill region. The Serum & urinary profile of Na+ & K+ were observed higher in plain region and it may be the cause of their higher blood pressure as compared to the hill subjects.
IMPROVEMENT OF SALT TOLERANCE IN DURUM WHEAT BY ASCORBIC ACID APPLICATION

The main objective of this study is to examine whether exogenously applied Ascorbic acid (AsA) may enhance the salt tolerance in durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf. var. Waha). Two weeks old seedling, grown in plastic pots of 1kg, were subjected to salt stress by adding 25ml of NaCl (150mm), and treated or not with the addition of ascorbic acid (0.7 mM). Two weeks after salt stress, plants were harvested and the various measures were recorded. The effects of salt stress, in the presence and absence of vitamin C, on the leaf growth, leaf area (LA) and some physiological and biochemical changes were investigated. It was established that the application of vitamin C mitigate to variable extent the adverse effect of salt stress on plant growth, may be due, in part, to increased leaf area, improved chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, enhanced proline accumulation and decreased H2O2 content. In conclusion, we can say that treatment with ascorbic acid improve salt tolerance in durum wheat through the enhancement of multiple processes.
CENTELLA ASIATICA: A CONCISE DRUG REVIEW WITH PROBABLE CLINICAL USES

Centella asiatica (Gotu kola) is an imperative herb in Ayurvedic medicine, often mentioned in combination with the related European marsh pennywort (Hydrocotyle vulgaris). About 20 species recounted to Gotu kola cultivate in most parts of the tropic or wet pantropical areas such as rice paddies and also in rocky and higher elevations. Centella asiatica (Gotu kola) is known as longevity herb and used widely in India and Nepal as part of the traditional Ayurvedic medicine. In Samskrita, it is called 'Mandūkaparnī' as its leaf appears as a standing frog from its backside. It is also called 'Brahmi the goddess of supreme wisdom and 'Saraswati the goddess knowledge & wisdom. Its roots and leaves are used for medicinal purposes and provide important health benefits related to healthy veins and blood vessels, to treat skin disorders, help with better memory and improve brain function.
EFFECT OF HEAT STRESS IN TROPICAL LIVESTOCK AND DIFFERENT STRATEGIES FOR ITS AMELIORATION

Stress is a broad term, generally used in negative connotation and is described as the cumulative detrimental effect of a variety of factors on the health and performance of animals. Heat stress occurs in animals when there is an imbalance between heat production within the body and its dissipation. Heat stress is one of the wide varieties of factors which causes oxidative stress in-vivo. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), the major culprits for causing oxidative stress, are constantly generated in vivo as an integral part of metabolism. ROS may cause oxidative stress when their level exceeds the threshold value. They trigger progressive destruction of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), ultimately leading to membrane destruction. Body employs antioxidants to quench these free radicals. The enzymatic antioxidants like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) act by scavenging both intracellular and extracellular superoxide radical and preventing lipid peroxidation of plasma membrane. Non-enzymatic antioxidants include vitamins like vitamins C, A and E, proteins like albumin, transferrin, glutathione (GSH) etc. Antioxidant nutrient supplementation especially vitamins C, A and E, zinc and chromium can be used to attenuate the negative effects of environmental stress.
EFFECT OF DROUGHT STRESS AND ITS INTERACTION WITH ASCORBATE AND SALICYLIC ACID ON OKRA (Hibiscus esculents L.) GERMINATION AND SEEDLING GROWTH

Effect of drought stress was investigated at water potentials of-0.2 &-0.4 MPA (by using PEG 6000) on okra germination and seedling growth. In this study, percent germination, average time necessary for germination in day, radical and plumule length, fresh and dry weight of okra seedlings were measured. Effect of ascorbate and salicylic acid and interaction of these tow substances were investigated on germination and seedling growth under normal condition and dry conditions. Drought inhabits from germination and seedling growth in this plant. Ascorbate and salicylic acid increase germination and decrease of average time necessary for germination under drought conditions. The seeds that were treated by ascorbate and salicylic acid, radical and plumule length, fresh and dry weight of radical and plumule were increased. Results showed that ascorbate and salicylic acid decrease effects and damages of drought stresses on okra germination and seedlings growth. In general, adding salicylic acid and ascorbic acid significantly relieved the harsh effects of drought on okra germination and growth parameters and it seems that ascorbate and salicylic acid were able to enhance the tolerant ability of the plant to drought stress.
EVALUATING THE CLINICAL EFFICACY OF A POLYHERBAL FORMULATION AROGH PLUS ON STRESS - A RANDOMISED CLINICAL STUDY

Background : Stress is a common entity, widely spoken about among the working population, for which a safe and effective remedy is needed. Purpose of the study : To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Arogh plus a polyherbal formulation, towards stress relieving properties in a randomized clinical trial in volunteers. Results : The clinical benefit of stress was reinforced by way of significant reduction in serum cortisol, increase in total count and reduction of symptoms pertaining to stress in a randomized clinical trial in volunteers carried out at Rohini Holistic Health centre. Conclusion :Arogh plus is an effective formulation in relieving stress and improving the quality of life.

Проведён сравнительный анализ содержания жирных кислот в тканях Myriophyllum spicatum L. и Elodea canadensis Michx. в условиях воздействия 0,05 М раствора хлорида кадмия в течение 24 часов. Показаны изменения в составе жирных кислот в ответ на воздействие токсиканта. Выявлены отличия в динамике изменения содержания жирных кислот под воздействием хлорида кадмия у исследованных видов.
HEME OXYGENASE: ENZYME WITH FUNCTIONAL DIVERSITY

In recent years role of Heme oxygenase (HO) has been considered in nearly all living system including plants, animals and other organisms. The common role of heme oxygenase is the degradation of heme, although there is a diversity of additional role of HO in organisms including iron acquisition, cellular signaling, defense against stress and biosynthesis during metabolism. Likewise, the function of HO is to provide cofactors for the photosynthetic apparatus in cyanobacteria. Heme concentration is variable in different plant species and found maximum in leguminous plant root nodules. Moreover HO has diverse isoforms in plant and animal systems. The review addressed important function of HO and focused on its functional diversity.
